Finish Strong: 5 Tips to Ace Your Finals at Victory East Lansing

The end of the semester is in sight! While the finish line is close, we know this is often the most stressful time for Michigan State students. Between final projects, exams, and the urge to enjoy the warming East Lansing weather, staying focused is a challenge.
At Victory East Lansing, we want to see you succeed. Here are five tips to help you power through finals week and finish the semester on top.
1. Optimize Your Study Environment
Sometimes, your desk just doesn’t cut it anymore. When you need a change of scenery to spark productivity, head over to our on-site Study Lounges. They are designed to be quiet, high-focus zones with high-speed Wi-Fi and private cubicles.
Pro-Tip: If you prefer studying in your apartment, take advantage of the Sound Bar in your unit to play some low-fi beats or “white noise” to help you stay in the zone without distractions.
2. Fuel Your Brain (and Your Body)
Caffeine is a finals week essential, but you don’t have to trek all the way to Grand River Ave for a refill. Grab a fresh cup at our Coffee Bar to power through your morning review sessions.
Don’t forget to balance the coffee with real movement. If your brain feels foggy, a quick 20-minute workout in our 24-hour Fitness Center or a walk to the nearby Patriarche Park can reset your focus and lower your stress levels.
3. Stick to a Strategic Schedule
Don’t look at your finals as one giant mountain; break them into smaller hills. Use a planner to map out exactly what you need to accomplish each day.
- Morning: Heavy lifting (writing papers, difficult problem sets).
- Afternoon: Active review (flashcards, group study).
- Evening: Organization and light reading.
4. Prioritize Sleep and Recovery
It’s tempting to pull an all-nighter, but science shows that sleep is when your brain actually stores the information you learned during the day. Our apartments are furnished with full-sized beds designed for comfort—make sure you’re using yours! Aim for at least 7-8 hours of sleep so you walk into your exam at the MSU Union or your lecture hall feeling sharp, not sluggish.
5. Reward Your Hard Work
Give yourself something to look forward to! Tell yourself that once you finish that 10-page paper, you’ll spend an hour at the Resident Lounge or challenge your roommates to a match at the Sand Volleyball Court. Having a reward waiting for you at “home” makes the long hours at the library much more bearable.
You’ve worked hard all year, Spartans—now it’s time to bring it home! From all of us at Victory East Lansing, good luck on your finals. We’re rooting for you!
